One of my greatest joys is watching my kids grow right before my eyes.  My days are always filled with excitement as I discover the uniqueness and individuality of my children.  As a general guide, we can always consult our reliable Feng Shui principles in giving us a glimpse of our children’s personality traits.  Luckily, I found this piece of information from the previous issue of the Feng Shui World magazine. And as a bonus, I will also share the different traits of babies born under the year of the Earth Rat.

To avail of a sneak peek into your child’s personality, we must first formulate their very own personal ruling or lucky numbers. Once we know their special lucky number, then we can decipher the kid’s personality traits, potential passions and dormant skills.  And with knowing them better, we will also in better position to understand them better and love them more.

Getting Your Child’s Lucky Number
Add the numerical hour of birth and the date of birth of your child until the sum are reduced into a single digit from 1 to 9.  For example, if your child is born on 5.30 am of May 28, 2006, then the numerical date of birth is 0530/5/28/2006.  Add 5+3+0+5+2+8+2+0+0+6, which sums up to 31.  To reduce 31, add 3+1 and you will get 4 as the ruling number.  Do include the hour numbers so we can get a clearer glimpse into the child’s true essence.

For lucky number 1, the child is born competitive, tends to dominate a group and give commands automatically. They like to be on top or be place in number one position in any of the challenges thrown their way.  They possess positive attitudes toward competition and can readily point out the weaknesses and strength of other players. They need lots of encouragement and space to grow so expose them to different activities.  They will bloom with praise and shy away with negativity.

For children with lucky number 2, emotional quotient remains high as they are sensitive and caring.  Children of this group are always in touch with their feelings and readily respond to kind, sincere words from others.  Creating wonderful relationships with people around them will dominate later life.  They will shine in professions involving giving care to others such as counselors, doctors and health workers.  They would also do well in management of people.  Motivate them positively to bring the best in them always.

Children with 3 as a lucky number are always the “life of the party” because they are sociable and ever popular.  They can easily connect with people and like to be the center of attention.  They are most comfortable with social scenes and gatherings so do not coop them inside the house.  Let them socialize with other kids as much as possible.  Communication skills are their best assets so careers in media, public relations or even showbiz will be the safest bet. 

The ever practical and organized child has the lucky number 4.  They thrive in a more structured environment and approach problems with analytical and scientific methods.  They like order and organized concepts like in mathematics and other sciences.  As left-brain thinkers, they tend to do activities and solve problems with their brain power.  They love puzzles and games that challenge their intellect.  Keep them on their toes with such activities and watch them apply practical solutions to difficult problems as they grow older. 

For those who have the lucky number 5, the child is a potential genius.  This will be very apparent early in life because of their non-stop curiosity and eagerness to learn.  Parents of these children must be patient and always be ready to answer the million of questions they will ask.  Just like a sponge, they will take everything you feed their brains and will always ask for more.  They can become inventors and pioneers in any field they land on.  They will excel even in careers requiring higher than average mental capacity and intelligence.  To complement, encourage them to different pursuits for a more well-rounded personality.

Children with lucky number 6 have intrinsic charm and creativity.  They tend to bring out the good attitude from people and their creative abilities bring out even more positive vibes around them.  They do not like to witness conflicts or arguments and would run away from any sort of heated confrontation.  Encourage their creativity with unstructured activities and with lots of different materials at their disposal.  Praise their creations with child-like standards and never restrain them in their creative conquests.

Those children who are active and inventive have the ruling number 7. They are always full of energy and restless.  With boundless energy, they can hardly stay put and sit in a corner.  They need to learn different ways to express themselves, stuff to tinker with and put their creativity into good use.  Early on, they would want to play, dissect and put together again toys or things that have caught their fancy.  So give those challenging toys and games to focus on.  Teach them also how to relax and get enough rest for their benefit.

Super achievers have the lucky number 8 as their ruling number.  They are born leaders thus; they can easily influence and motivate others to a certain goal.  They have natural charisma and can communicate well.  They are destined to have power, wealth and glamour.  But they could also be impatient and temperamental when success is not readily accessible to them so they need to be taught compassion and patience.  Children of this group can do well in politics or business.

Dreamers and visionaries are of the lucky number 9.  Children of this group will not run out of imagination and grand dreams in life.  They can independent, brave and adventurous.  They are not afraid to be alone as long as they can do their own thing with passion.  Success will come to them once they have chosen a hobby or sport that they love and pursue vigorously.  Let them pick their path, motivate them and guide them with a positive manner.

Now for those who will having babies this year of the Earth rat will be lucky.  Babies born will be blessed and will face minimal obstacles in life.  Girls will tend to be petite while boys will tend to mischievous.  Those born under the midnight hour (11 pm to 1 am – the hour of the Rat) will be mischievous and active.  They will inherit the nocturnal habit of the rat and remain alert even during bedtime.  However, Rat babies born during the day will less likely exhibit this trait. Rat children welcome everything new, new experiences, stuff, games, acquaintances, situations.  In turn, they also have short attention span and the tendency to get bored easily. 
Children born under rat sign need lots of encouragement and attention so they can focus on a single matter.  It is better to humor them than to criticize because they carry big egos so parents must learn to play along.
