Welcome good luck through your door

August 22, 2019

The flow of energy or chi is an important consideration in the practice of feng shui. This explains why doors have great significance in house and other building orientation. They are the house openings where the chi flows in and out.

In general, houses or doors facing East and South are considered auspicious because of the vitality represented by the rising sun. Although this makes good explanation, the life energy or birth element of the house owner should be considered. If the owner's personal element conflicts with these supposedly good directions, it may still indicate negative influences. In this case, ideally, the front door should face other directions that are more favorable to the home owner.

There is so much to be said about choice of colors for your main door. Each of the directions represents a feng shui element. It would help to keep this in mind when deciding on the color of your door.

It also helps to consider the following factors.

Door Size.

Proportion is the key. A small door does not look good on a big house, and the inverse is true; A huge door may look disproportionate on a small house.  A rule of thumb is that the main or front door should be larger than other doors in the house. For example, a master bedroom that has a door larger than the main door may indicate problems in relationships.

Material Used.

Whether it be wood, metal, or composite materials, what should matter first is the personal preference and taste of the homeowner. Doors are there to keep residents safe and protected. Having satisfied these considerations, the effort to balance the elements of the surroundings may be taken into account.

Inward or Outward Opening.

Ideally, feng shui favors doors that open into the house rather than outward, the reason being that the direction of energy is led towards the home.   If the direction of flow faces outward, it is as if you are pushing away all the positive energy-opportunities from coming into your life.

Some Things to Avoid.

Other parts or objects inside the home may have clashing indications with the location of the front door. Feng shui suggests avoiding the following:

·         Stairway. Doors should not directly face a stairway because stairs symbolize ups and downs and possibly money rolling down the steps and outside the door.

·         Kitchen stove. A kitchen facing the front door represents energy being ‘cooked’ and demolished by the fire. It is believed that if you can see the kitchen stove when you enter the house, the residents will have huge expenses and have trouble saving money.

·         Toilet or Bathroom. If the sight of a toilet greets you as you enter through the main door, the belief is that whatever chi enters the home will be polluted by the negative energy of the bathroom. If this cannot be avoided, always keep the toilet door closed or put a divider to redirect chi.

·         Back Door. If the front door aligns with the back door, it is said that all the energy that flows inside will go straight outside of the home. This could represent money flying right out the back. Try to add furniture, shelves, or divider to break the flow.
