Finding a home — the feng shui way

March 06, 2008

By Marites Allen

Owning your very own house is a major milestone that every Filipino family dreams about. In feng shui, the luck of the physical structure of the home is equally important with luck of the person/s living in it. Your checklist when buying a home may include items like location, view, size, number of bedrooms, neighbors, security. And not to be left out is the feng shui of the property because this may spell happiness and prosperity for one family and misery and loss for the other. Thus, we need to be very careful in making such decisions and would be very wise to first check the feng shui of the location and of the house.

For good feng shui, major consideration should be made on the overall perspective of your family. To help you in this regard, we have provided here some valuable feng shui information when buying a house. Check the location

First, identify the facing direction of the entire property development. This means pinpointing the entry passageway of the development site or the first point of entry. This is vital because this is the point where the strongest yang energy enters the area. Take note of the land formation in determining the facing direction. With the presence of large bodies of water or mountains, the overall site plan can be taken to identify the general direction of the development is focused towards.

With the facing direction, the flying star chart then can be applied to the overall site plan. By this, we can identify the areas most beneficial for you to purchase. You should identify sectors with auspicious water and mountain stars. To enhance these stars further, you can also see if any land/water formations are present such as lakes, rivers and streams or mountains and valleys.

So, if a family with a matriarch having the large influence or is the major breadwinner, then a housing development facing southeast would have the southwest as an auspicious sector. Thus, houses on this sector will bring in windfall luck wherein women, in particular, will do well in this sector. On the other hand, houses of the northwest will generally benefit from wealth and income luck for the patriarch of the family. Fathers of the family should then take in consideration this location of the development because it would be very beneficial for him as a person and for his household members as well. Whenever we could not get our best choice according to feng shui, then we need to identify the house which will best control the afflictions that comes with it. For example, if the area is afflicted with the 5 yellow star and number 3 quarrelsome star, the best cure would be having the element of metal incorporated into the house to exhaust the bad chi of the misfortune and the argumentative stars.

The best way to do this is to have a residence constructed in a form that reflects the element of metal. Another option would be having the house with a curvaceous shape for this signifies the shape of metal. Painting the exterior with white or grey colors would also enhance having the metal element to the subdue the star afflictions.

Select the house

When the location is finally picked, we can now proceed with selection of the specific house from that area. Main consideration for picking the house would be based on its floor plan. We must study and understand this beforehand and observe the following feng shui concerns.

First, determine the Kua number of the head of the family or the breadwinner. Based on the Kua number, it would be best if the angle or direction of the main door faces his/her best directions. If he is a west person, then the door should face northwest or northeast. Persons from the east group should have main doors face the north or east. The worse scenario would be the opposite: having the front door facing the total loss direction of the person concerned.

You could do minor renovations to suit such arrangements on the house you select. This will change the Eight Mansions Feng Shui of the door but will not affect the Flying Star chart of the home. This is so because the said chart is based on the facing direction of the building and not just of the main door. We hope these feng shui recommendations will help you find a suitable and auspicious home for you and your family. Indeed, every Filipino family deserves a happy and lucky home.
